How to train your Web Assist

Training happens when you submit your website address in the dashboard. Instro scans your public pages, builds your assistant’s knowledge from them and gives you the code to install.

Generate your assistant

  1. Log in to the dashboard

Sign in at instro.ai/login. You’ll be taken to your dashboard automatically.

  2. Enter your website URL

In the Widget setup panel, type the homepage or main public URL of the site you want Web Assist to answer from, for example https://yourdomain.com.

  3. Select Generate

Instro submits your site for scanning. The status badge changes to Scan running while your content is processed.

  4. Wait for the scan to finish

Smaller sites usually finish quickly. Larger sites take longer, which is normal. A progress bar shows how many pages have been scanned.

  5. Copy your snippet

When the badge shows Ready to install, your snippet and user ID appear in the Generated snippet box. Use Copy code to copy it.

Understanding the scan status

Needs website

No site has been submitted yet. Enter your URL and select Generate.

Scan running

Your site is being scanned. You can leave the page and come back later; the snippet appears here when it’s ready. Use Refresh status to check progress.

Ready to install

Training is complete. Your snippet and user ID are available, and the button reads Generated.

Failed

The scan couldn’t complete. Check that your site is publicly reachable, then use Ask again to resubmit.

Getting the best answers

The assistant is only as good as the content it learns from. These habits make a noticeable difference.

  • Use your main public URL so the scan starts from the right place.
  • Make sure the pages that answer common questions (services, pricing, FAQs, contact details) are live and publicly visible.
  • Keep key information in page text rather than only in images or PDFs.
  • Add company context in Settings for anything your site doesn’t say clearly, such as tone of voice or service boundaries.
  • Review unanswered questions in your analytics and add that information to your website.

Keeping knowledge up to date

Pro plans include monthly website rescans and knowledge refresh, so new and updated pages are picked up automatically.

Your user ID is the value attached to the identifying attribute in your snippet. You’ll need it for npm installs and for testing in the playground.
